Tips from your local Certified Picture Framer (CPF)

Everybody knows that we need glazing (glass or acrylic) to protect our artwork on most pieces, but the custom framing glazing options may be a mystery. We wanted to discuss your glass options in this post and come back to discuss acrylic options another time. Okay then, let's break it down! Uhhh, okay, let's not use that expression. Let's make this crystal clear.

Typically, there are three glass choices recommended by custom framers: Museum Glass, Conservation Clear, and Premium Clear.

Museum Glass is our preferred choice, and we use this glass on more than 60% of our custom framing projects. Museum Glass is the best glazing option when it comes to glass, because it has both 99% UV protection engineered for permanence and anti-reflective coating that virtually eliminates reflections.

Conservation Clear Glass is a staple in the custom framing industry. Like Museum Glass, Conservation Clear Glass blocks 99% of harmful UV rays. The only difference is that this option lacks the anti-reflective coating.

Premium Clear Glass (Basic Picture Frame Glass) is protective against everyday wear and tear elements. It's a great option for framing when UV protection is not a concern. We do not recommend using Premium Clear Glass to protect your most cherished memories.
