A is for Animals by Shane Hickrod

About Shane

I was born and raised in Evansville IN. I have always had an interest in art since an early age and found art in any media to be source of endless fascination. I find inspiration in the arts in all its forms from comic books to the Louvre. I eventually earned a BS in art from the University of Southern Indiana and since been involved locally in group shows as well as solo shows. If you can’t tell by my short bio and statement, I really don’t like to talk about myself and would rather let my work do the talking for me. However, I would like to express my gratitude for the ability to show my work and to anyone who took time come see it.

Statement

This series of paintings is my homage to the mid-century children’s book illustrators that have been a constant source of inspiration in my work.  With these paintings, I wanted to capture the sense of whimsy and spontaneity found in the pages of children’s books as well as, to mimic their use of anthropomorphic animals as a way to comment on the human experience. I believe this allows the paintings to speak to universal themes in a more palatable manner.
